The Dar-ol-Quran Center affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine launched the competition at the holy mausoleum on Saturday.

The participants are competing in the categories of Quran recitation, memorization and Tafseer (interpretation).

Wassam Nadhir al-Delfi, head of the Quranic Media Center of the Astan, stated that the opening ceremony was attended by Sheikh Hassan Rashid Al-Abaichi, secretary-general of the Astan, along with other officials, religious scholars, university professors, and representatives from participating countries.

He said the event began with Quranic recitations by Hajj Osama Al-Karbalai, a renowned Iraqi reciter.

This was followed by speeches from a number of officials and religious figures, he noted.

The ceremony featured poet and historian Ali Al-Saffar, who marked the competition’s launch with a literary poem, he said, adding that the Thaqalayn Youth Choir, affiliated with the Dar-ol-Quran Center’s Basra branch, also performed to enhance the spiritual atmosphere.

Al-Delfi noted that the event drew a large crowd, including Quran reciters, memorizers, scholars, university figures, pilgrims visiting Imam Hussein’s (AS) holy shrine, and representatives from other holy shrines.
